Heat + Twist = 🔥 Tip from @makeitwithkim @ocrchardjewelleryworkshop

“How cool is this?! 😍 At @makeitwithkim we do a lot of wire twisting, but this was our first time trying the traditional blacksmithing method—heating as you twist! 🔥
For best results, use square, D-shape, oval, or rectangular wire (not round) so the twist shows clearly. We’ve tested from 1.5mm (~15g) up to 8mm (~1g) and all worked well.
Work-harden your wire first—roll it square, use your preferred method, or buy pre-hardened. Mark the section with a Sharpie, secure one end in a vice, and as soon as the Sharpie burns off, it’s ready to twist.
You can work with a partner (one heats, one twists) or do it solo with a vice, torch in one hand, and twisting tool in the other. A Smith Little Torch is great for focused heat, but even a butane torch works for thinner wire.
Always set up safely, wear flameproof gloves, and most importantly—have fun experimenting!”
