Here is a soldering tip from @marquisjewelryacademy - โTrying out a new way to use HOLD IT soldering clay from @reneefordmetals

Our student, Sara, was making her very first ring, and we jumped right in the deep end by hand fabricating a 14k gold ring with 3 tiny spaced bezels for faceted 3x5mm sapphires.
After protecting all the metal with boric acid, we propped the ring straight up on a porcelain honeycomb with pins and added a little bit of HoldIt! between the angled right and left bezels to keep them from falling further down the sides during soldering!
Using too much heat sink like this soldering clay can negatively effect your heat control, so introducing the ceramic pins to do the heavy lifting of propping this ring up helped us significantly with heat balance.
This soldering clay can be re-usable if you do not over cook it, but a small pinch like shown here would be one and done.
Have you tried out this awesome product yet in your studio (or in ours?)โ Thank you so much for letting me share! This is such a great set up! ๐ Raise your hand if youโve had a tricky soldering set up that frustrated you ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ญ maybe something like this could work next time! #soldering #solderingtip #solderingaring #goldringinthemaking #jewelryschool #jewelryteachersofinstagram
