HEART BEZEL TIPS:
There are no special tricks that I am familiar with when it comes to hearts because each heart is a uniquely cut stone but I do have some general tips. First make sure your bezel wire is just tall enough to push over the stone. When you are setting stones with corners, cusps or tips those areas can get a bit messy when there is too much metal to push over. Make sure your bezel wire is annealed because you will be using pliers to custom shape your bezel. I like to shape the upper cusp of the heart, where the top curves meet in the middle first. I use a pair of pliers with a half round and flat combo and I slowly make adjustments until I have a good fit around my stone. I have a toothbrush I adapted into a bezel pusher and I use this to gently push on the bezel wire to get the fit nice and close around the stone. I get my fit good, solder and then I can make some tiny adjustments after I solder if necessary. Once my bezel is looking good I can further reduce the height if needed by gently sanding, recheck the fit and then solder to my backplate. When I set this I while push gently on north, south, east and west but then I will focus on that inner cusp and point ends first.
